As I was doing the readings for Wednesdays assignment I took a little time and I decided to Google "perfect woman". And of course tons of pictures showed up as women with breast enhancements, really skinny, women's bodies without a head. But I came across this and I thought it was interesting. I know this isn't just me but I know a lot of young women around college age are really concerned with their body image.

-PS it shows some skin so don't get offended.
I think it says a lot that the women's ideal is actually skinnier than the men's. It says that we hold ourselves to a much higher standard than men do. It also supports the idea presented in the excerpt from The Beauty Myth that what we are told we should be is less about what is desired than it is about what will be unattainable and thus attract our focus and consumer power for the longest period of time.
ReplyDeleteIt goes with the stuff we were suppose to read for this week's class. The article definitely shows that men & women have different opinons about body image.
