I came across this article recently, and I thought that not only does it tie into this week's theme, but it shows that the ideal of beauty is not just something that was dealt with in the '90s when The Beauty Myth came out. It still greatly affects our lives. It's a bit long, but you can get the gist of it from just the first few paragraphs if you're pressed for time.

That article was pretty interesting. It's ridiculous that employers base how much money their employees make based on how fat or skinny they are.
ReplyDeleteThe double standard for thin women vs. thin men was also really indicative of the gender scripts that are most highly valued.
